Lydd Airshow

Last weekend I went to my first airshow in ages, at Lydd in Kent, and took lots of photos of the various flying machines there.

This entry is essentially just an excuse to show of some of the photos I took, so without further ado, I present you with the British army helicopter that somebody decided to name after a text-only web-browser, Lynx:

It was fun watching formation flying from a Canberra, Hawker Hunter, and DeHavilland Sea Vixen:

But my favourite aircraft of the show has to be the Chinook:

Although the B-17 Flying Fortress was nice:

Unfortunately I didn't get a lot of opportunity to snap the Spitfire:

Here's the Hunter and Sea Vixen again, in a dogfight... or should that be bullfight?

Here are some planes that were doing some formation aerobatics:

three coloured plains in a row

Including flying under a low gate...

And bursting balloons:

Here's another one of the Lynx as it took off:

And some Yaks:

The Canberra has a couple of very useful features: one, a waving-hole, for putting your hand through and waving at people with; and two, a notice to warn people not to walk through the solid chassis:

Well, I've got a whole host more photos, both different shots of the machines I've already shown and of other aircraft I haven't shown, so if anyone is interested in seeing them then just ask. :)

What settings did you use to take those? Whenever I try to get something like that, it appears highly blurred. I either have to raise the shutter speed, making it too dark, or fiddle with other settings, making it grainy.

Also, do you have a hit counter on here? I wonder how many people read it... this is the first comment anyone's made. Go you for still updating, though.

The vast majority were on semi-auto (Program mode).
Shutter speeds were all between 1/800 and 1/1600, mostly around 1/1000.
Sensitivity was at ISO 200 for them all.
Lens was a Sigma 70-300mm, mostly from 150mm to 300mm and between F/5.6 and F/9.

I did increase the brightness on them, but mostly only slightly - the dogfight/bullfight one needed a fair bit of fixing, as did the spitfire, but the rest weren't particularly bad.

I think it mostly came down to having good sunlight, and (for once) steady hands. :)

I don't have a hit counter, but I do have Awstats. I'm getting a steady trickle - mayble a dozen people a day - mostly to my MacBook/3G and Eileen Donan entries, via Google.
